Nippon Steel's crude Steel production rose 19% to 49.46 million tons in 2021, due to the resumption of some equipment that had been significantly reduced since 2020. Cleveland-cliffs production rose 352% year-to-year to 16.3 million tons due to the inclusion of AK Steel operations after March 2020 and the December 2020 completion of the acquisition of all assets of ArcelorMittal USA, including two iron ore mines and six steelmaking sites.
Fourteen steelmakers, 11 of them Chinese, produced less crude steel than in 2020.
